Hello, I am Richard McDonald, a retired professional stamp and coin dealer.
I started working at the Stamp Mart in Victoria, B.C., Canada, in 1967, and became the manager of their mail order department. In 1972, I created Admiral Stamp and Coin, ASDA, PTS, CCDA. This became one of the largest stamp and coin stores in the world, with 18 employees and over 6,000 sq.ft. of store space. I sold it in 1987, to a company who listed it on the Canadian Stock Exchange. Starting in the 1990's, I lived and worked in the United States and Great Britain, buying and selling, but also becoming an original Sotheby's.com associate. Some of my philatalic highlights include the purchasing and selling of the New Carlilse Cover in the 1980's (this sold for $390,000.00 in 2010) and the discovery of a Five Pound Bechuanaland postal-fiscal mint stamp, the only example known that is not in a public collection. Over the years, my wife and I have remained active in the collectible markets. In 2017, I started Admiral Limousine Service located in Victoria, and enjoy giving tours of our beautiful city and VIP transport in a lovely rare Bentley.
